Celjska koča is a part of the Posavje hillrange. The area is distinguished by six distinctive hilltops and four valleys, or gorges, between them. The hill tops are Tovst (834m ASL ), Ramanco (781m ASL), Vipota ( 532m ASL ), Grmada ( 718m ASL ), Bavč ( 692m ASL), in Srebotnik ( 700m ASL ). The valley of Pečovnik with its Pečovniški brook lies between the hills of Tovst, Grmada and Vipota. The whole area is marked with marked mountain paths

The area around Celjska koča is rich in natural features and cultural heritage: 

  • the gorge Hudičev graben 
  • Grmada above Pečovnik with its three hilltops 
  • Douglasia trees in Pečovnik 
  • The forest reserve Vipota 
  • Trobiševa beech tree (around 200 years old) 
  • The church of Marije Snežne (Mary of the Snow) at Svetina

The most important inn in this area is hotel Celjska koča. Other inns are: inn by the Čater farm, Pečovniška koča MS (Mountaneering Society) Grmada, daily bar at Plata.
